Navigation

If you want to search for an address, the flow of input is much the same as the Zumo 550. First it asks you if you wish to search for a specific city in the state you are in, search all cities or if you want to select another city and state.

Once you have made that choice you can select the street number using a touchpad that is large and easy to navigate.

For alphabetic input, the touch screen is laid out a little differently than the 550 and allows input of characters with a few less touches of the screen.

As soon as you have input enough characters to narrow the list sufficiently, a list of choices pops up.

After you select the street name a choice or list of choices will pop up. A nice feature Garmin added is a calculated mileage and time tab that pops out of the Go! button after a few seconds.

Like the 550, you can select your choice as a new destination or a via point on the current route.

When you make the selection, calculation is very fast. Depending on the complexity of the route calculation can be instantaneous or comes up in a matter of seconds.

When you wish to route to a specific location you have two pages of choices.

When you select "Points of Interest", you get 3 pages of choices.

Selecting "Auto Services" for example will bring up several pages of a list of choices.

Then if you select Rest Area or Tourist Info, you will get a list of the nearest choices with their distance and direction.

All navigation choices work in a similar fashion and allow you to choose whether you want them near where you are, your current route, your current destination or another city and will allow you to narrow the search by spelling all or part of the name.
