Day 3 - Banff National Park, Alberta to Dawson Creek, British Columbia

My GS and a lone Harley are tucked in the back of the lodge. There are other bikes grouped by type on the other side of the lodge. The room was nice, clean and fairly reasonably priced, at least for being in the heart of a national park. The sportbike crowd Art?? A couple of cruisers The all Harley crowd From the front of The Crossing These 'Ice Explorers' are 45-passenger, 6-weel drive excursion vehicles. A little further up the Highway youcan get aboard one and be taken out onto a giant glacier This is a very imposing vehicle. We could have used them in Denver last Christmas This describes the evolution of the Ice Explorer Another view of the giant bus The Crossing is a general store, lodge, cabins, dining room and a pub at about the mid-point of the Icefields Highway More of the Muppet theme. These are some small cabins athe back o The Crossing. They appear to be housing for some of the staff Just a few miles into the morning's drive, I encountered quite a greeting I'm not sure what they find to eat in the gravel and they're not sure what I am doing They certainly aren't shy The views are beautiful and expansive the whole length of the Icefields Highway The Icefields Highway Another of the many Ice Explorers. There are between 15 and 20 of these running each day. They all depart from this location. This is the glacier you ride the Ice Exporers to see. It is the largest glacier south of the arctic circle, though it has gotten considerably smaller over the last decade. That is the Athabsaca Glacier behind this Ice Explorer 150 miles of scenery like this - does it get any better? This is at the Jasper end of the icefields Highway. Now I am heading out of the mountains toward Grande Prairie. This mossy pond had lots of shades of green, the photo doesn't do it justice.
