Day 6 - Whitehorse, Yukon to Dawson City, Yukon

Here is the GS loaded and ready to tackle the Dempster. I rolled it around to the front to load up. Note the Harley that was allowed to park in a no parking zone all night so that they could keep an eye on it. The plan is to make it to Eagle Plains or just beyond, about the mid-point on the Dempster Highway. The forcast looks great, this rain is moving to the south and it should be clear all the way to Inuvik for the next few days. This is al lake along the Klondike Highway. The clouds are growing and rain is threatening, but I should drive out of it just before Dawson I happened upon the Montague Roadhouse Historic Site. These roadhouses were built every 20 or 30 miles along the Overland Trail. This one was built in 1915 and used until the 1950s. For these interior pictures I grabbed the 14mm wide-angle lens I carried.. Since I am using a full frame 35mm DSLR it is truly a wide angle lens. The Montague Roadhouse. This old stove has almost returned to the earth The Montague Roadhouse. From the opposite corner, again with the 14mm lens Montague Roadhouse Historic Site - looking toward the Dempster Montague Roadhouse Historic Site - looking back toward Whitehorse Along the klondike Highway About 200 miles from Whitehorse, I pitched a tent to stay out of the rain while I tried to arrange a tow to Dawson City. This would be home for a few hours. With about 100 miles to go before I started toward the Arctic Circle on the Dempster, I stopped at a pullout during a break in the rain. When I went back to the bike to start it I got the EWS! warning, meaning the bike would not start. I would be on the side of the Klondike Highway for about 7 hours waiting for a flatbed that never showed up.
